The enacted measure increases the Hero Award available to the surviving spouse or life partner, dependent children, or dependent parents of a firefighter, police officer, or prosecution detective killed while performing a heroic deed involving a special hazard or risk. It raises the award from $50,000 to $100,000, paid at $2,000 per month for 50 months, and makes technical changes to the relevant City Code section.
Amending Section 21-105 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled "Hero Awards," by increasing the amount that may be awarded to family members of firefighters, police officers, and prosecution detectives killed in the course of performing heroic deeds, and by making certain technical changes; all under certain terms and conditions.
