The enacted ordinance amended Philadelphia’s building and fire codes to require automatic fire sprinklers in basements and exit-discharge levels of certain buildings that are at least 45 feet high. It also established sprinkler retrofit and compliance-document requirements for some existing buildings, with exceptions for specified building types, occupancies, and properties with sufficient separation from neighboring structures.

Amending Title 4 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled "The Philadelphia Building Construction and Occupancy Code," by amending Subcode "B" (The Philadelphia Building Code), and Subcode "F" (The Philadelphia Fire Code), to add sections requiring fire sprinklers in portions of certain buildings, under certain terms and conditions.
