The enacted ordinance authorizes Philadelphia’s Chief Innovation Officer or designee to renew Verizon Pennsylvania LLC’s cable television franchise for five years in Franchise Areas I, II, III, and IV, allowing Verizon to operate its cable system in the City’s streets and public rights-of-way under the renewal agreement. The agreement provides for a franchise fee of up to 5% of Verizon’s cable-service revenue, $8 million for public, educational, and governmental access, a $500,000 technology grant, broadband and dark-fiber connections for 183 City sites, and customer-service and enforcement requirements.

Authorizing the City's Chief Innovation Officer or their designee to enter into a cable television franchise renewal agreement with Verizon Pennsylvania LLC, renewing the cable television franchise granted by the City to Verizon, for Franchise Areas I, II, III and IV of the City, all under certain terms and conditions.
