This bill, currently in the Mayor’s Office, would change Philadelphia’s public employee retirement rules for service-connected death benefits. It would allow benefits when a first responder from the Fire Department, Police Department, or District Attorney’s Office dies by suicide after experiencing a traumatic event in the line of duty, including certain cases dating back to July 1, 2016, subject to review by the Retirement Board and its Medical Panel.
