This enacted ordinance amended Philadelphia’s building, fire, and property maintenance codes to require hard-wired, interconnected smoke alarms in existing congregate living facilities, including boarding homes. The alarms must be connected so that when one sounds, they all sound; some buildings with sprinklers or qualifying existing alarms are exempt, and certain installations had permit and completion deadlines.

Amending Title 4 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled "The Philadelphia Building Construction and Occupancy Code," by amending Subcode "F" (The Philadelphia Fire Code) and Subcode "PM" (The Philadelphia Property Maintenance Code), to add sections requiring hard-wired interconnected smoke alarms in boarding homes; all under certain terms and conditions.
